Catholic bishops in Pakistan have called on education authorities to “remove as soon as possible content related to prejudice and hatred against religious minorities from school textbooks”.

The “Justice and Peace” Commission of the Pakistani bishops has recently issued a document entitled “Combating religious intolerance through education.” Prior to its publication, they analyzed more than 70 textbooks revealed Kashif Aslam, one of the committee members.

The clergy stressed that if Pakistani society wants to make progress and show the rest of the world that is law-abiding , “you need to change the structure of school education and to modify the curriculum.” Moreover, the Commission recommended strengthening cooperation between the local Ministry of Education and civil society organizations and various religious communities to intervene effectively in cases of hate speech and prejudice.
