On April 11, Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) Malta will be organizing a prayer vigil in memory of the modern Christian martyrs. This Night of Witness will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Balzan by 5:30pm.

Two witnesses from Nigeria, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lamma and Mr. Solomon Yuhwam will be sharing their testimony of faith in the midst of persecution and attacks by Fulani Herdsmen on Christians in North Eastern Nigeria.

Fr. Polycarp Lamma is a Catholic Priest of the Diocese of Jalingo, North East of Nigeria where a new wave of violent attacks against Christians by militant Fulani herdsmen is raging on an almost daily basis.

Since his ordination in 2007, Fr. Polycarp has been working in crisis-ridden areas, living in the rural villages with the people and accompanying the faithful in their faith. As a shepherd who lives with the smell of the sheep, he is also a target and has felt the direct impact of these attacks. In June 2018, on his birthday, the Fulani militants stormed his Parish home, burning down the Parish Church, his home and destroying the entire village. His escape was a miracle.

Fr. Polycarp says he has seen countless members of his parish community murdered in the most brutal way and up to 84 Churches under his pastoral care completely destroyed by the militants.

Fr. Polycarp will be sharing his pastoral experience in the face of all these attacks.

Mr. Solomon Yuhwam, a Catholic father of three is a farmer and in his community of Dan Anacha, a village in Nigeria’s North Eastern State of Taraba, the clash between the Fulani herdsmen and the farmers is very intense. Solomon has come face to face with the militants on several occasions and has suffered and survived brutal attacks.

He serves his Parish community as a prayer leader and will be sharing his encounter with the Fulani herdsmen and explaining the real situation of the crisis in the North Eastern part of Nigeria.

All are invited to attend and in the Spirit of Lent, stand in solidarity with our persecuted brothers and sisters all over the world.
