Message of Pope Francisco immediately after the earthquake and tsunami last September 16 which affected north central Chile:
“The Holy Father Francisco, distressed at the news of the earthquake that has caused fatalities, injuries and material damage, offers prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased and raises fervent prayers to the Lord to give consolation to those affected by misfortune and inspire in everyone feelings of Christian hope and fraternal solidarity to overcome adversity. “
Rebuilding the parish of All Saints in Talcahuano
The parish church of All Saints in Talcahuano, along with several other parts of the region, suffered badly from a previous earthquake and tsunami in 2010. This disaster caused severe damage to the interior o f the church and destroyed buildings used for pastoral care.
At the moment parish and community life are still badly affected because they have had to adapt their activities to cope with the damp and dangerous conditions in order to continue functioning.
Rebuilding works have started but the parish still needs to raise a considerable amount to finish the reconstruction. ACN has been asked to help.
