UKRAINE: Help a Hospital Chaplain Reach the Forgotten

In Ukraine, many palliative‑care patients are facing their final days alone. War has scattered families, leaving the elderly without support, companionship or spiritual care.

You can help ensure they are not forgotten.

Fr Taras Viliura, chaplain at St Luke’s Clinic, travels every day to visit patients who are seriously ill, homebound or dying. He brings the Sacraments, prays with them, comforts their families and offers the presence of the Church when people need it most.

But many of the patients he serves live far from the city — some more than 10 kilometres away — and public transport is unreliable. Bicycles and taxis are not practical for daily pastoral visits.

Fr Taras cannot continue this ministry without a suitable vehicle.

People like Olena, aged 78, depend on him. Her children have left Ukraine, and she was living alone, filled with fear and loneliness. After Fr Taras began visiting her, she told him, “Father, you made me feel seen and not forgotten.”

Your compassion can help Fr Taras continue:

  • Visiting the sick and dying
  • Bringing the Sacraments to those who cannot leave their homes
  • Supporting families in moments of grief
  • Responding to urgent calls for pastoral care

Your love can help him reach those who have no one else.

Will you help Fr Taras continue this vital ministry?
