Imagine walking away from everything familiar — your community, your friends, your sense of belonging. For families in Mozambique, this has been their painful journey. Yet with your support, they are beginning a new journey of healing and trust.
Your support makes it possible for religious sisters in the Diocese of Pemba to walk alongside those who have lost loved ones, homes, and even their sense of identity.
Sister Aparecida Queiroz, of the Congregation of the Daughters of Jesus, has been serving in Cabo Delgado since 2017. With your support through Aid to the Church in Need (ACN), she is helping thousands of displaced people overcome trauma and rebuild their lives.
“They are completely lost because of trauma,” Sister Aparecida shares. “This work helps them start their life again.”

Thanks to you, group sessions bring survivors together to share stories, regain confidence, and rediscover joy. People who once felt silenced now speak, create, and celebrate life again.
“We are speaking about people who lost everything — not just material goods, but their very identities,” Sister Aparecida explains. “Through our work, they begin to dream again.”
In these gatherings, communities fractured by violence learn to trust each other again — and celebrate together.
Since 2017, violence in Cabo Delgado has claimed more than 6,000 lives and forced over one million people to flee. Yet because of you, the Church is present with emergency aid, pastoral care, and trauma healing. You are giving survivors the chance to recover their dignity and rebuild their future.
Every gift you make to ACN is more than material aid. It is a declaration: I believe in hope. I believe in healing. I believe in community.
You are the reason displaced families can say, “I am starting my life again.”
