2019 WEEK OF PRAYER FOR ECUMENICAL UNITY
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which takes place annually from 18-25 January is here again. This year’s celebration will be held in Malta on Friday, 25th January, in the Parish Church of St. Paul’s Shipwreck, Valletta at 6.30pm. An Ecumenical Service will be led by H.E. Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna with a Biblical reflection by Canon Simon Godfrey of St. Paul Anglican Pro-Cathedral, Valletta.
President of the Diocesan Ecumenical Commission and Ecclesiastical Assistant of Aid to the Church in Need, Mgr Prof. Hector Scerri explained that this is an annual event where more than other times during the year, we pray to overcome the divisions among Christian churches.
He disclosed that the theme chosen for this year by the Pontifical Council for Unity among Christians and the World Council for Churches is “Follow justice and justice alone” (Deut. 16, 20)
Mgr Hector added that Christian groups from different churches within Indonesia prepared the materials for the Week of Prayer this year.
“The material for next year’s Week of Prayer for Unity among Christians was prepared by members of different Churches and finalized in Malta when an international group came to Malta last September. Currently the material is being translated to the main languages. Later this year, this will be sent to all countries and used for the next week of Christian Unity next year”, he said.
Everyone is invited to attend this Ecumenical Service which lasts about an hour. It would be a nice moment together to pray for unity among Christians. The group Joy Gospel Singers will animate the Service.
