The history of Aid to the Church in Need is the proof that,

even today,
Faith can still

ACN (Malta)

A Catholic Church able to fulfill its calling worldwide

On 4th November 2011, it was announced that Pope Benedict XVI had elevated the international organisation Aid to the Church in Need, of which the Maltese Office is a part, to the status of Pontifical Foundation. Previously the organisation had been a Universal Public Association, whose revised decrees were approved by the Congregation of the Clergy on 10 December 1997 (Decree No.97003166, Vatican City).

At the same time, the Holy Father appointed the Prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy, Cardinal Mauro Piacenza, to the position of President of the Foundation. Dr Thomas Keine-Geldern is the Executive President of ACN International. In a nutshell, Aid to the Church in Need is a Pontifical Foundation of the Catholic Church, supporting the Catholic faithful and other Christians where they are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need.

Mission

PRAYER – INFORMATION – ACTION

ACN strengthens the Church through prayer, information and action where Christians are persecuted or suffering.

Values

Work together  effectively to fulfill our mission

Prayer is the cornerstone. It opens us to God’s will and unites us with our benefactors and beneficiaries. As a Pontifical Foundation we are loyal to the Pope. Christian charity is at our core. We serve with passion, humility and integrity. We are at the service of our brothers and sisters on the ground. We engage ourselves spiritually, personally and professionally. We understand our benefactors as members of our family, sharing with them our joys and sorrows. We use our funds responsibly — as trustees we are cost-conscious and accountable. We listen carefully and have the courage to tell the truth. We communicate wisely and cultivate respectful relationships. Benefiting from our global diversity, we work together effectively to fulfill our mission.
